Whatcom LIO Ecosystem Recovery Plan
The Puget Sound Partnership and the Environmental Protection Agency established a Puget Sound-wide approach for communities, through local integrating organizations (LIO), to support local actions and programs that together will achieve Puget Sound ecosystem recovery. The approach entails each of the LIOs around Puget Sound developing its own local 5 to 6 year ecosystem recovery plan that includes strategies from which high priority actions that support Puget Sound recovery can be developed. The Puget Sound Partnership established a format for the LIO Ecosystem Recovery Plans and the Environmental Protection Agency provided funding.
The approach for the Whatcom LIO Ecosystem Recovery Plan has been to build from and integrate existing plans and programs related to ecosystem protection and recovery in WRIA 1 (Water Resource Inventory Area) 1 and that consider multiple interests and needs. Developing the Whatcom LIO Plan has been and iterative process and done within the overall WRIA 1 structure
